The student and I spent a long and very productive time going through his notes and almost every single one of the slides that were used in lecture. With the internet and his text as backup, I felt as we went through the slides that we were able to address every single moment of his uncertainties. I never let us move on until I could tell he had a good understanding of a topic. He does have a good handle on the subject overall, but there were plenty of times I was glad to be there explaining one process or another (from the early formation of the earth out of the accretion disk, to the seafloor spreading events taking place at the mid oceanic ridge) in an in depth, one-on-one manner that leads to complete understanding. I think it went very well, and I think he is on the right track towards doing well on his exam Friday.

The student and I went over how to construct molecular formulae, and how to write ionic compounds. She scored a 100 on her quiz, and seemed to grasp the material well. She did have a little difficulty with the problems that were not represented in the homework, but she figured out effective rules and strategies for tackling them. She is going to complete the next homework before our next session. She also scored a 97 on her statistics test, which was a pleasant surprise.
