Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I went over the previous test scores. The student was on 75 percentile in verbal reasoning, and was only 38th on quantitative reasoning. I went over placement exam test taking strategies such as paying attention to time, mark unknowns and come back to them or at least do guesswork if time is limiting, for synonyms of unknown words break them and find the root to find the closest meaning from the list, and for math problems, if unsure start working by eliminating the choices and arriving at correct answer. I talked with the student to see where she needs to improve. She was good at synonyms and sentence completion, but needed help with reading comprehension, I gave her tips on working on reading comprehension (to read the questions before and while reading the passage mark the answers in order to answer the questions on time). In quantitative reasoning she had trouble with geometry (surface area, volumes of 3-D figures). I gave her a 10 week plan; for summer I asked her to complete two practice sessions per week and once school starts she can do one per week, to keep learning her vocabulary words every week, and to do additional geometry worksheets. I gave her a complete placement exam model and geometry lessons."
"The student is improving greatly at number theory and geometry. We worked on an essay as well, and I gave him some instruction there."
"Reviewed math and calculated math problems. Also, did reading comprehension and practiced test taking strategies."
