Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we focused on the student's essay that is due this week, as well as his last set of weekly IDs for this semester. He had already done all the research and had a rough draft (really just a collection of thoughts and points) for the essay, so we focused on organization and topic sentences in order to strongly present the well-researched information. He knew the topic and had great ideas about how to write about them. We then finished his last set of IDs leading up to the end of the Civil War, focusing on the division that the Civil War caused, even among the same political parties and regions."
"The student and I reviewed terms from a review sheet covering chapters 19 and 20, but time did not allow for chapter 21. She has an objective test on Friday on all three chapters. She showed me her latest essay (82%), which I will review between now and the next week when we meet. When I first began to tutor her she had written only one essay which was a 72%, and since that time she has had an 80%, 85%, and now the 82%. She said that her improvement was definitely due to the work she and I have done on writing organization and structure."
"Today was a great session! We prepared for the student's test tomorrow by going through definitions for identifications and working on how to study them. Next, we worked on conceptual ideas about the Civil War that will be on the test. We also brainstormed and then outlined the material she will include on her project that she completed after I left. She will text me when she gets the study guide for her final, and we will then meet to go through the material systematically and make sure she is as prepared as possible for the exam."
