Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had already completed her assigned math homework on the order of operations when I arrived; thus, I checked over it for errors. I only found one. Then, she practiced operations of rational numbers using two provided worksheets."
"The student had an algebra test today, which she felt pretty confident about aside from the problems on long division and synthetic division of polynomials, so we did several practice problems on that. By the end of the session, the student could do each kind of problem with little to no correction from me and we both felt pretty confident with her skills."
"The student had an exam recently that he believe he did well on. He has a cumulative assessment on Tuesday, for which his teacher gave him a study guide. We went over the first half of the packet. We will meet again before the test to ensure that he is well prepared. I believe he will take initiative to do extra studying outside of our sessions, which will ultimately improve his success on the exam."
"The student had completed her work prior the session, but she had one question to go over together. We successfully worked through this step by step. Afterwards, we created our own similar word problem and solved that one. She even came up with a shortcut to answer the second question by using logical reasoning. Between those two problems, she noted that this topic of "break-even" made a lot of sense. I included a couple of more challenging practice problems from an online math website to reinforce these skills, which she worked through successfully with a little guidance."
"The student had completed most of the first set of review problems that I had given him. We went over the ones that had given him difficulty. We again reviewed the rules for simplifying radicals and dealing with exponents. Most of our time we spent reviewing trigonometry problems since that was the unit that he had the most difficulty with. He seems to now understand how to set up a sketch of the problem and which ratio to use. We talked about strategies for the final exam. If he stays calm and uses a methodical approach, he can do well on the final."
"The student had division homework for the first time since I've been working with her. It was multiplication of decimals. She struggled to recall the steps of long division, so we used some online tutorials and practice problems to work on the skill. We will continue to work on this next session, as she will need much more practice to become comfortable with the steps."
