Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Concepts covered: Math: Geometry - Angles and triangles, solving degrees of various angles. I listed, for the student, all angles and triangle rules. She seemed very happy with information provided and new ability to easily identify the degrees of various angles, identify types of angles, such as supplementary, complementary, alternate interior and exterior angles, vertical and adjacent angles, their degrees measurements, types of triangles and the angles degrees and check for correctness."
"Covered the graphing of quadratic functions; in particular vertices, reflections, domains, and ranges. Also noted that quadratic functions can be equally expressed in standard, factored, or vertex form. Review pointed toward Monday's quiz."
"During our session today, the student worked on her road trip atlas project. She began choosing cities and states to travel through and mapped out her itinerary. She will begin working on the journal portion of the project. The project is due on next week. We will spend all of our sessions between now and then working on this project."
"During the session, the student worked on his online homework. The homework was on finding slope, intercept, and graphing of functions. He did well. I explained to him why he cannot find an intercept and slope from an equation without the equation taking the form (y=mx+b). After two trials, he was able to do the rest."
"During the session, we worked through several pages of the student's work text that involved solving expressions for (or isolating) a stated variable. "
"During this session we worked on her homework and the test she took last week. She got a 77.5, which is very close to a B. We went over the questions she missed and corrected some of her misconceptions. Her biggest issue was fractions, which was a big issue for her last year. I definitely notice a tremendous improvement in this area, but she still has to keep practicing to make it perfect. Another misconception she had was when multiplying fractions, she thought that the numerator and the denominator were flipped. So I explained to her that that is the case only when the fractions are being divided. All in all, I think she is doing great and always does her homework and works hard. There is no doubt that at this pace she will average an A in her classes by the time the first quarter is over."
