Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, the student and I covered some of the topics that are going to be on her upcoming test, focusing on factoring polynomials with a degree higher than two, and how to read and start word problems. She needed help some with synthetic division, and understood better when and how to use it by the end of the session. She also told me that she got a 29/30 on her latest quiz on material covered in our last session, which is a marked improvement."
"In this session, we went over a few half-life problems that were on the test. Then, we reviewed our previous trig lessons on the definition of sin, cos, and tan; principal angles; and converting degrees and radians. The new lesson for trig shows how inverse functions will apply to trigonometry."
"On Sunday, the student first finished her Trigonometry homework. She practiced law of sines and law of cosines applications problems. She is doing very well with these topics, so we practiced the next topic her class would be learning: vectors. She read through the textbook notes, and we practiced several problems. She picked them up quickly."
"Reviewed final exam including functions and their graphs. Went over previous exams and explained how certain problems can be easily missed if not paying attention to what is being asked or how to write it in the correct form."
"The focus of this session was final exam review. The student had done the problems on the review that she knew how to do. We worked together on the problems she was unsure how to start, or had started and was unsure on how to finish. I reviewed how she could double check her answers using the calculator as a tool. We also talked about what formulas to memorize, and how she could figure out some problems by making connections, in case she forgets the formulas. I believe she will do well on her final! She has worked very hard to prepare."
"The session went well. I have worked a couple of sessions with the student, and by now, I am well aware of her needs and learning style. During the session, we worked on a new classroom project that involved civil engineering practices and a lot of decision-making. She led the session, and we worked together to meet her goals. She said they are going to be working on that project for a while, so she would like to continue working on it next week when we meet again. She felt accomplished by the end of the session."
