Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session today, the student and I focused on reading comprehension and fluency. He enjoyed reading a Spawn comic. We concluded our session with multiplication review that he was given for homework."
"During the session, the student and I worked on multiplication. We played a game to work on his basic multiplication facts, then completed problems. We also worked on multiplication word problems with 1 and 2 steps."
"During this session we reviewed multiples of 3 and 4 and reviewed how to create fractions with common denominators, simplify fractions, and compare fractions. The student is struggling with remembering the steps on her own. If I begin to walk her through it, then she remembers what to do. My recommendation is do more than the assigned homework so she gets additional practice."
"During this session, I continued to use educational computer activities to introduce math concepts or practice ones he has learned in school. This tactic has been much more successful in keeping him engaging in learning math. Today, he did decimals and probability, which included converting between grams and kilograms and converting a percentage to a decimal. He learned that when turning a percentage into decimal form, it is like writing the 'cents' in money. The student also repeated the same number patterns game from last time and did a much better job. He stopped to think about what the pattern was instead of just guessing numbers in the missing range. I was pleased to see this focus and improvement."
"During this session, we continued to discuss negative numbers. We covered adding and subtracting negative numbers, as well as multiplying negative numbers, discussing each topic in greater depth than the previous session. I structured the session around a few different activities towards which the student seemed to respond well. I gave him some problems to solve after each activity, and he was able to answer them quickly and correctly, indicating that he understood them. Next session, we will talk about dividing negative numbers, then move on to fractions."
"During this session, we reviewed the math problems from the homework and for the math test, going over the questions the student missed. I provided more examples to review to reinforce the mathematical concepts."
