Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session the student and I reviewed how to find the domain and range of a function from its equation. Since she has a test on Tuesday, we reviewed ways to find the roots of a quadratic equation and did extra practice online."
"Today, the student and I worked on SAT math: adding fractions with unlike denominators. She worked hard and was patient in problem solving. I focused on the strategy of adding numerators, not denominators, when adding fractions. She is improving in math reasoning."
"In Thursday's session, we started on the problems from the state review sheet and later on I had the student practice scientific notation, exponents, and word problems on linear systems. I have asked her to work on the state algebra review sheet and also on the worksheet I had brought with me for homework."
"We went over the basic theories of probability. The student is a bright young man. He had trouble with some basic theories so we went over them in detail. He said he enjoys statistics, so I think he had fun learning about statistics. I left him some statistics formulas he should look over. The mother wanted us to go over his worksheet and teach him about Chi-square. We went over his worksheet the whole time. I believe Chi-square is a fairly simply distribution. I think the session went well."
"We continued our review for the AP exam. The student has a good handle on the material. A couple of times he was slow to see the way through, but ended up doing perfectly. He is definitely going to be ready in time for the exam; he seems very comfortable with the material and using his calculator efficiently."
"We focused on algebra II concepts concerning exponential growth, compound interest, and properties of logarithms and the methods employed in order to answer pre-test questions. She is a very dedicated student with excellent note-taking ability, but she has a few problems with the specifics of harder problems and the concepts behind how she solves problems. We will continue to work on this."
