"We went over the student's new rough draft--he made significant improvements. At a certain point I realized that I was treating his essay as if it was written by a college freshman, and he would have gotten a lot of comments but also a passing grade. Impressive. He now has two research papers due in the next couple of months--one for Language Arts and one for History."
"We went over the first half of a rough draft of the student's essay and also talked through various ways of organizing her ideas around key concepts. This led to a reorganizing of the essay's main points and a new detailed outline. We will look at a rough draft on Wednesday."

"I had the students do a writing expansion worksheet using nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. Then a crossword and sight word concentration."
"I helped the student begin his research paper, and we specifically worked on his bibliography. I helped him find three reputable sources and organize his paper. He also wrote a rough draft of his introduction to the research paper."
"I helped the student edit her homework assignment. She had a reading blog assignment for her ELA class, which we brainstormed together on. She wrote a draft and then we worked together to check spelling, grammar, punctuation, and organization. Her mother requested, based on news from the student's teacher, that we begin working more proactively on punctuation and grammar. She is doing increasingly well with writing conceptually and seems to enjoy it a lot, but does need help on the details of editing."
