Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test tomorrow over partial fraction decomposition, so he requested that we practice for that today with the longest, most complicated problem he could find. He demonstrated that he understood the process, only needing additional explanations for repeated linear factors and quadratic factors."
"We covered the law of sines and cosines, vector math, and chapter 6 review from the student's text. He prepared for an upcoming test thoroughly, and made flashcards, outline notes, and pictures as a study guide."
"The student has a unit test coming up in two weeks, so we spent our time doing homework which will be covered. This includes trigonometric properties and requires some extensive algebraic problemsolving (substitutions, expanding and factoring polynomials). She struggled a little but picked up on some of the more difficult problems with help. We are meeting again next Tuesday."
"We reviewed the quiz the student took. He did pretty well. We spent almost all of the time reviewing algebraic concepts: graphing quadratic functions by hand, completing the square, and graphing trigonometric functions. Finally, I began to teach arithmetic sequences. I left a worksheet for him to finish for next time, and I am happy to say that he seemed especially interested in the tricks of graphing."
"The student and I started by talking about matrices, and the various methods of solving systems of equations using them. Then, we talked briefly about how to do partial fractions. With a little bit of practice, I'm sure he'll be fine."
"We continued working on optimization problems. We then moved on to differentials and applications. Lastly, we started related rates. I emphasized the difference between constant and actual variables and methods of solving equations (reducing variables, making proportions, grouping terms)."
"We covered inequalities and solving multivariable equations with inequalities. Both students were introduced to the topic this week in school, and we primarily worked on a HW worksheet they were assigned today. It was our first tutoring session, and was successful in figuring out what the best manner of tutoring both students needed.
I helped them understand the basics first, as well as how to approach the HW problems. By the end, their time taken on each problem and organizational skills during working out the problems were improved. The HW was almost finished, with the last 3 problems left to finish on their own during the weekend.
At this moment, I have no concerns. I will always have extra worksheets with me, in the case that HW is finished and extra practice can be incorporated into the session."

"We covered dealing with the rules of exponents and radicals. After talking with the students it seems that they have been doing better in their courses. There were no concerns from this session."
"For this session we mainly covered radicals and exponents in preparation for a text on the chapter material the student has on Monday. He has an understanding of the material. The current study plan is for me to provide worksheets relevant to the material for him to work on, on his own time and then reviewing the worksheets the following session. I think this will help him with his upcoming test."
"The student has a test tomorrow on solving systems of equations using substitution and elimination. We did several problems from a sample test using both methods. We may consider getting a book or program for her to practice basic algebra problems. We also reviewed a couple of solve by graphing questions which were recently added to this test."
"I covered the conversion between radius and degree, calculation and graphing of sine, cosine, tangent, cotangent, secant, and cosecant, and trigonometry functions."
"We continued preparing for the final exam and reviewing all of the concepts from the entire year. I feel as though the student has an understanding on most of the material.
I gave her notes of all of the concepts that we covered in preparing for the final as well as the formulas that she will need."
