Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Second hour with the student - I gave him a page long review of last week's grammar topics (identifying prepositions, identifying adverbs, replacing nouns with pronouns, irregular past tenses of verbs, and giving comparative and superlative forms of adjectives). He found it slightly difficult but did better than he thought! This week we worked on correlative conjunctions, subject verb agreement, and direct and indirect objects."
"The student and I discussed strategies and tips for working through the math section efficiently. As she's very good at the math, these are mostly in case she gets stuck or wants to eliminate answer choices. We talked through some practice problems, and she did really well!"
"Today, the student and I covered the writing sections of the SAT. We've been mostly focusing on the reading/math multiple choice sections and the essay, but today we actually talked about the grammar involved in the writing section. The student is doing well. She said that she checked her original scores for the SAT and they were all in the mid 400's. Right now she's easily in the mid 500's. With more time she could easily be in the 600's."
"I came in today having looked at all the assigned problems before our session, and presented those that I thought were challenging to the student. We also did the challenging last problems, and emphasized those to her as being important to study for tomorrow's quiz, because they integrated so much material from the previous two chapters. If she does that, she should do well on the quiz."
"We covered ionic bonding and covalent bonding and their nomenclature. The mechanism behind ionic and covalent bonding was reviewed and seemed to create a better understanding of the difference between the two types of bonds. Homework assignment left: memorize two handouts given relating to polyatomic anions and cations."
"Went over missing values of GDP function, such as consumption function, investment desired function, etc. Covered homework assignment requiring use of these problems. Next session will cover a bullet point layout of objectives found for an assigned class essay on relationship between standard of living and labor productivity."
