Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We focused on vocabulary and word forms. As mentioned before, vocabulary is the area in need of the most improvement. In the next session, we will focus predominantly on translation skills."
"This session we prepared for the student's upcoming cumulative/chapter 20 test by continuing to review the passive voice and ablative of agent. We translated Latin sentences (incorporating his chapter 20 vocab) into English, switched the voice of the sentences in English (active>passive), and then translated the sentences back into Latin. He was engaged and inquisitive. We continued to discuss translation strategies as we worked through our practice sentences. I asked him to finish translating the last sentence we were working on into the English passive voice and then Latin passive."
"The student and I reviewed the vocabulary and the third person with more Latin examples. He really remembered the vocabulary. Great work! Then, we discussed some second person examples. For this week, he may memorize the personal endings -o= I, -s=you, etc. through repeating them aloud five times at least once a day (before going to sleep might prove especially helpful). We also talked about trying memorization through putting the endings to the tune of a well-known song."
"We reviewed the vocabulary that was given to her by her Spanish teacher. This included nouns and commands. We used a website to create flashcards. We reviewed the vocabulary words first from English to Spanish then in reverse order. We completed a series of exercises that included matching, writing the translation, and multiple choice."
"We reviewed verb conjugation as well as noun-adjective agreement. She didn't struggle much, she got concepts and knew how to use new vocab. She was enthusiastic as always and wanted to learn as much as possible. No strategies, besides one that I taught her before to aid her pronunciation. "
"We started the lesson today by practicing silent H/U. We then applied some practical questions to this activity. Our next activity involved asking about how we were and we reviewed all of the vocabulary for emotions that we have learned thus far. We also added the additional vocabulary for Tener emotions. We then touched on the personal pronouns and reviewed our conjugation. Finally, we learned how to ask people's names. And we played a roleplay exercise where he was the boss and had to find sick and hungry employees."
