Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The concepts we covered were: linear/polynomial/square root/reciprocal/absolute value/greatest integer parent functions, vertical & horizontal translations, reflections in the coordinate axes, vertical & horizontal dilations, transformations with absolute value, operations with functions, composition of functions, finding a composite function with a restricted domain, decomposing a composite function, the horizontal line test, finding an inverse function, and compositions of inverse functions."
"The session went well. We reviewed limits particularly with ln(x) and e^(x). I think the idea of using growth trends was much easier by the end of the lesson, but some more practice is still needed. We graphed the functions first, went through point testing, and did some of the comparison limits."
"The special right triangles were tricky, but after several problems, the student caught on very well. She still had a few more to complete when we ended the session, but she has mastered the concept well enough to proceed."
"The student and I continued to work on word problems involving division, and she continued to show toughness and improvement in how clearly she thinks. Her brother and I continued to work on fractions, and finding LCMs. He was reluctant at first, but quickly improved his focus and continued to show excitement and got many questions correct."
"The student & I worked on how to solve Quadratic Equations. I showed him how to do each of the methods and went over when to use each method to be the most efficient in solving the equation. He seemed to understand the concepts and was able to complete the problems we worked on with guidance but lacked some confidence. In order to build confidence, I told him to work on solving equations on his own to get more comfortable with the methods used and when to use them."
"The student and I are focusing on striving for accuracy in his work. He often rushes through work and does not always get the correct answer, even though he understands the content. Yesterday we focused on evaluating expressions, but it was a new concept for him, so we did basic problems and focused on his use of integers in these problems. We then worked on a performance task to ensure that he is applying what he is learning in different situations and not simply preferring for tests."
