Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student had his homework finished before our session. He completed the assignment which was graphing numerical relations on a number line. I took the opportunity to teach more in depth on volume. His math class stopped at area so I took his learning one step further and covered the concept in three dimensions. He took to the concept very well. In our next session I will give him a few questions to solve involving volume."
"Today was my first meeting with the student. She has to turn in her homework from 1.1-1.8 tomorrow. During our session, we covered 1.2-1.5. She told me she was struggling most with setting up word problems. We spent a good hour on this. I shared a few strategies with her because she is a visual learner. I taught her how to draw pictures to get a better idea of what the question is asking. She will finish the remainder of her homework and submit it tomorrow. This is the very first assignment for the class. We will meet again Wednesday to review for her first test that will be administered on Thursday."
"Worked on multiplying and dividing rational fractions problems. Factoring the expressions to cancel terms, using the terms as hints for factoring. Also started reviewing last semester's material for the midterm. Good job overall."
"In this session, we began by working on the math section 2-5. This included imaginary and complex numbers. We worked through the math power point and many practice problems on this topic. She quickly mastered converting from negative square roots to imaginary numbers. We also solved for quadratics using imaginary numbers and differentiated between: real, complex, and imaginary numbers. We then moved on to chemistry were we worked on covalent compounds. Specifically we worked on naming covalent compounds and writing formulas for covalent compounds."
"The student and I worked on review problems for the test he has coming up this week. We solved quadratics in a number of different ways, including completing the square. We did operations with complex numbers and finding complex zeros of quadratics, and multiple sections on recognizing the quadratic form with substitutions. We also worked on linear inequalities and nonlinear inequalities, especially using interval notation to describe the solution sets. He worked very hard and was dedicated to getting as much done as possible, including much more practice on his own."
"Today the student and I worked on solving functions, graphing functions, factoring, and rewriting linear equations in slope intercept form."
