Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed two science sections from the reading program. He wrote a report on how muscles work. We reviewed his math homework and assigned two more pages. We read an article about the adventure author Alistair MAcLean. He also completed reading of a chapter from the book Captains Courageous."
"The students did well for our first session together. I set up accounts for both students on an online learning program, and they have access to them when they are not working with me. They are both strong in math facts and have a good foundation of skills. I asked both students what they need to focus on, and they were able to give me a good list, so we will supplement the online lessons with those things, and I will add more as I see the need. I will use the next session to do a better placement test with both of the students, now that I have had a chance to get to know them and their math skills a little better. This will not be a grade level diagnostic test, but it will be one that will identify specific areas of need, in lower grade levels."
"The students worked on Math problems today. We started out by doing a shared reading activity (as they both love reading), then we worked on Math problems, played a math game with cards, and finished with computer time."
"This tutoring session consisted of review and practice of pre-primer sight words. We also did activities on primer sight words. The student read different pre-primer literature books. He read very well with each book. We also reviewed practice number recognition from 11 -20. He has made some progress with this concept. However, he still needs more practice to help him become more successful with number recognition of numbers 11-20."
"This was a good session. We were able to review what we had done together and were able to lay out a plan for the rest of the summer. In the next 8 weeks, the student needs to read about 800 pages in two books. We also talked about what he needed to do in order to prepare for next year: the book reports, the content of a book report, and my expectation of how we would move forward. We also reviewed the content of Snow Dogs, the book we had read together, focusing on the skills he would need to perform better on the assessments used by the school. I am sending a Word document with the outline of our expectations."
"This was our first session for the school year. He did so well last year that he was able to skip Pre-Algebra and go straight to Algebra this year. The information is slightly harder than he is used to, but he understands it."
