This session, we went over the student's communications homework. For the first problem, I made up an example to explain the concepts of function scaling/shifting and energy/power of a signal. The next problem involved testing for linearity, causality, and time-invariance. We had previously discussed all of these except for causality when reviewing the lecture notes, so the homework problem was a good opportunity to test what he learned. The student did well.

I broke down the different ways you could influence the direction of reaction (changing temp, volume, pressure, and concentration). She picked up the concepts very quickly and was able to complete the worksheet on her own. I left her with a summary sheet explaining what we had gone over and key mistakes to watch out for. Overall, she seemed very confident about her upcoming test.

We attempted to make hot ice by reacting baking soda and vinegar, boiling off the excess water so we had super concentrated sodium acetate, then supercooling it and having the liquid crystallize upon pouring it from the container. We weren't able to boil enough water off in our scheduled time, so I may try to boil it off and bring it for him next week.
