Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This my last session with this student. He has markedly improved in the math section of the SAT. I believe he can score well on the SAT (700+). However at this point, his biggest weakness is knowing that he can retake the SAT in October. I'd like him to approach this exam as if it is the first and last time he will take it, so he can put a more concerted effort and not settle with a lower score. This will only put more pressure on him later to score higher. Additionally, he still makes a few minor errors during his exams, but as always, they are correctable. I hope he achieves his target score of 700+, which I believe he can and will."
"The student and I continued to review for her geometry state assessment exam. She had worked through a number of problems in a past test and we used these problems to try to solidify the most important concepts. She continues to have a good handle on angles problems that utilize the rule of 180. She continued to struggle a bit, however, with the application of the Pythagorean theorem. We spent quite a bit of time on coordinate geometry today. In this area there are really only 3 or 4 key concepts: slope, midpoint, distance and the equations of lines. The student needs more practice on coming up with the equation of a line. She did seem to get the idea of calculating slope. Our strategy will continue to be to focus on areas of the test where there are lots of problems. She only needs a 65 to pass this test, so she doesn't need to know every esoteric problem type. So we will focus on the big ones."
"We did a final review of state testing material. The student needed very little assistance with the problems, and appeared to be prepared. I gave him some tips on test taking. His test is scheduled for Monday."
