Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed questions from two different subject Self-Assessments. In chemistry, we covered: specific heat vs. heat capacity, acid-base and stoichiometry. In physics, we discussed: comparative analysis in the contexts of novel equations, acoustics, plane optics, and fluids. The student's fund of knowledge has increased significantly over time. She is now actively developing the test-taking skills. We discussed how to ensure correctness from the beginning in calculations, and the importance of careful reading of the question stem, even to the point of re-reading it if necessary. She is actively seeking integration between concepts, and her attitude towards her abilities has improved as a result. She will continue to work on pacing and content as she works through self-assessment questions."
"The student and I reviewed more topics from her biology review book. We covered cell division, reproduction, and embryology. We started going over musculoskeletal concepts, but we decided to hold off on going over muscle contraction until next week after she's learned the concept in her anatomy/physiology classes. Overall she's doing really well picking up the concepts and working through the questions."
"During this week's session we reviewed many of the articles I have sent over the past week. The student did a good job of identifying the author's main point, and we discussed strategies for focusing on the main point in longer articles or when they are on unfamiliar concepts. We worked through several optics problems together and discussed big concepts that she will review with her own study books. Next week, we will follow a similar strategy but will also review any questions she encountered on her own study time that she found challenging."
"Today we worked through more practice problems in physics, covering the topics of gravity and projectile motion in particular. We planned to continue working through practice material while the student works on studying the lecture material on her own. We will still cover new topics in our sessions as needed for the practice problems."
"We worked on a few different types of problems. We reviewed the Doppler effect and I had the student work a few problems on that. We also reviewed stoichiometry and limiting reagents and I had him work a few of those problems as well."
"The student and I reviewed his October LSAT and worked on the logic games section. I advised targeted hybrid matching/seq practice, review of the "overlap" concept, and a maintenance review of one the LR or RC sections per day."
