Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We focused on reviewing material for the student's upcoming algebra exam. We reviewed the problems he had already completed on his study guide and completed the remaining tools. We also used two online resources to practice concepts: an online learning tool site and a fun Jeopardy-like game for 7th grade algebra. I think he liked the algebra game, so I'll continue to look for resources that may be more engaging for him."
"Today, I met with the student for the first time. We talked about how he's been doing in algebra and how he likes to learn and study. We did most of this while working on a variety of homework problems. He's doing simple linear systems right now, and his algebraic skills are solid. He struggles if he doesn't have a method for working the problems, so I'll work to establish a problem-solving framework with (and for) him. I'll see him next Wednesday at the same time."
"The student and I went over the last couple of problems in his study guide that he had some trouble with. It seems like he has a pretty solid handle on word problems now, something he had trouble with when we first started. After going through a few concepts surrounding cellular respiration and photosynthesis, I talked to him about a way to systematically go through his large Bio study guide. During the next session, we will discuss the extra problems I assigned him as well as anything on his study Bio guide he wants to talk about."
"Today, we went over the topic of exponential functions and reviewed the formulas of lines in the context of the Cartesian plane. I've given the student a study guide to prepare her for a mini-quiz I'll be giving her during the next session, as well as some practice material to help her study for that mini-quiz."
"Today, the student and I went over her previous warm ups and textbook in preparation for her test tomorrow. We also made up practice questions for extra practice. She had a great attitude and did a great job."
"Today with the student, we worked on operations using decimals. Some examples were problems calculating sales tax, tip, or mark-ups/downs on a given item. She generally understood most of the concepts presented and could do them unassisted."
