Session Summaries by LSAT Tutors

LSAT Tutoring review by Michelle in Round Rock, TX
Today I met the parent and the student. For our first session I introduced some basic concepts of algebra. We reviewed the rules of adding and subtracting integers. We played a card game to integrate the new rules I taught the student about adding integers. Then we reviewed the order of operations rules: PEMDAS and was also started reading an algebra text. It summarized the meaning of real numbers, natural and whole numbers and all the difference between rational and irrational numbers. I gave the student some homework to help us figure out where she is at in understanding some basic algebra concepts and next time we will learn some more vocabulary and continue to work on her base of information, so we can start reviewing algebra problems with a strong base of knowledge.

We reviewed for the student's exam on Dec 20, covering some of the topics outlines by his Latin teacher. In particular, we reviewed vocabulary from lessons 1-8, grammatical constructions and their uses (including indicative, subjunctive, vocative, ablative absolute), basic noun declensions along with irregulars, and some historical facts about Cicero. We noted in his textbook the particular items that he should review. Overall, he did well on the vocabulary and general grammatical points.

Today, the student and I dug into reading comp - how to read the passages, what keywords and points to look for, and what questions to expect. She had a quick grasp of the patterns and did a great reading of a practice passage at the end. The student will take a timed practice test this week so we can see how far she's come, now that we've covered all three types of sections.
