LSAT Tutoring review by Minh in Gilbert, AZ
Today, I assessed the student's behavior and academic skills.  After we socialized and discussed his academics, he proceeded to completing the assigned math homework. He finished his assignment with every question having a correct answer. Thereafter, I discussed with the parent my game plan and tutoring ideas.  It was a great session.  I look forward to next Monday and Tuesday.

I reviewed and helped the student edit the last of her English Paper. We then came up with a study strategy for her upcoming American Gov. exam on the 21st. She has outlined Ch. 10/11 and then divided up the days so that she will review two sections each day. The night before the exam she will go back over everything.

Topics:  -Worked on how to best design an outline for student's upcoming sociology paper  -Improving versions of her grad school application essays Progress:  -Since I last saw her, she made two revisions to her USC essays.  The first revision was excellent, but she attended a meeting of prospective students and was given advice that led her to make a second revision to her essays. This second revision of her essay was much weaker, so I encouraged her to focus on three things in the essay: 1) Identifying her main interests/passions/goals 2) Providing evidence that she has already made certain accomplishments toward achieving those goals/expressing that interest, and 3) explaining why the USC program will be the best next step toward fulfilling those interests/goals.

We discussed a homework assignment which was about a student in Spain. We then reviewed the demonstratives (this, that, those, these, etc.). We identified when they were being used as a pronoun as opposed to an adjective. We discussed the three types in Spanish we did a few exercises to enforce what was discussed. Afterwards we searched for words in a word seek puzzle that is part of an extra credit assignment.

The student and I spent this session looking at the reading and verbal sections of the test. We looked at the different ways that the student was answering the questions and reading the passages. I am encouraging her to focus on the big pictures as well as the details.

The student has an excellent understanding of the test content-wise, and by slowing down a bit and finishing out her thoughts, her score will reflect those skills.
