Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, The student and I just worked on his weekend homework. He said he had some projects and other subjects to work on Sunday, and he wanted to make sure he got all of geometry and chemistry out of the way. He didn't have too many problems with the material covered in his assignments for either class (maybe a bit for geometry, but we talked through the problems)."
"The student was able to finish another practice exam for today's session. She scored a 27. She stayed strong in the English, reading and science section, with a little decrease in the math. We spent the session going over the English and math sections. We reviewed several math concepts, with a large focus on trig (which is one of the classes that she hasn't taken)."
"This was my first session with the student. We talked a bit about what his goals are for our sessions and the types of things he would like to review. He said he felt as though he did not have a strong enough foundation from his previous French classes to be highly successful at his current Pre-AP level. We agreed to do some review today; we went over numbers then days of the week and months of the year. I also asked many personal-response questions such as "Do you live near or far from school" or "What days do you study French" to gauge how his listening comprehension and speaking skills are. We will continue to develop his basic listening and speaking skills and he seems to have a good grasp on reading and writing."
"The student and I went over the last six types of argument questions, so he has a full arsenal of approaches. He is working on honing his skills in each type of argument. We worked on in-and-out games and two-tier linear games today. He is doing better about set up but still needs to work on making deductions to make games go faster. Overall, he is making good progress and says that the arguments are going well in his practice."
"Today the student and I reviewed a previous quiz concerning imaginary numbers and creating equations from roots. She had not done well, but after the session I feel like she understood the material very well."
"Reviewed several logic games questions and ran a diagnostic on logical reasoning abilities. Made solid progress on several logic games issues, including decreasing time spent on games and understanding tips/tricks to get diagramming correct. Set up format of future sessions."
"It's the last week of school for the student before summer vacation, so I wanted to cover the materials assigned to her for her chemistry test. We read a chapter together, went through the essential questions at the back of each chapter, learned about Pascal's principle and its real world uses, Archimedes' principle, more science vocabulary, and went through material that would possibly be on her test. We also will did a good warm up with the spaghetti card game. Student seems ready for her chemistry final."
"Covered positive & negative words (ningun, algun, nadie, etc.). Covered "drop 'o'" when masculine singular noun is present. Practiced converting positive sentences to negative and vice versa. Reviewed stem changing verbs. *verb meanings* - saber & traer. Very quick learner! Next session scheduled for Sunday 8:30pm"
"Reintroduced pronouns, the verb ser, or to be, and articles. She was talking a lot more. Left her with some practice material to work on."
"We spent the balance of the session on the Reflexive tense. We did many practices and by the end he was able to conjugate many of them correctly and on his own. He is studying a lot and progressing very well."
"Today we completed a review lesson over direct object pronouns. We learned how to identify them within a sentence, where to place them around verbs, and how to properly accentuate a verb with a direct object pronoun attached."
"We covered the preterit tense extensively on regular and irregular verbs by doing fill in the blank and multiple choice exercises. The student is doing really well. He is grasping the information very quickly and his vocabulary knowledge has improved a lot."
