Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked to improve his fifth grade math skills. He went from 18% mastered to 22% mastered in our time tonight. We worked on adding fractions in word problems, volume of objects, simplifying fractions, finding common denominators, and reviewing previously learned skills. To keep him focused, he earned a point for every problem he got correct - each point translated to thirty seconds of play on the math game website. He stayed engaged and attentive the whole time!"
"The student and I reviewed for her final exam. She currently has 97 in the class. I referred her to a website for extra practice. It has been a pleasure tutoring her the last few months."
"Today the focus was on introducing multiplication of 3's. We practiced counting by threes and looked at patterns. The student was able to understand multiplication and did a nice job practicing his facts for 3!"
"Today we worked on studying toward the student's state assessment exam. She gets about all of the material. If she takes the time, writes the problem out so she can understand it visually, and is very careful, she will pass her state assessment test."
"Today we went over the worksheet I sent the student. It was talking about fractions using fruit. We covered a lot of ground today, and she was able to keep up very well. We talked about adding fractions with like denominators. We talked about equivalent fractions, and the definitions of the numerator and the denominator. Some was review for her, but I think she really liked learning about mixed numbers today. I showed her what mixed numbers are, and we discussed them in depth--relating them to improper fractions. We talked about how fractions are basically division, to help her see division in a visual way. We also skimmed comparing fractions, which we will talk more about next time. She did great today. We are getting used to each other, and she laughed at some of my jokes. I can tell she is a bright kid. She has a good attitude about learning."
"The student and I started working with quadratics, but then decided to do some review. We reviewed volume, the Pythagorean theorem, systems of operations, linear equations, graphing, functions, irrational numbers, and algebraic solutions."
