Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was another good day with the student. Since she had practiced all of her flashcard decks already this week, I had her do some mental math practice. She did really well with the easy addition, but had some difficulty when I had her practice more difficult addition. She had some issues keeping the numbers straight in her head, but I kept encouraging her and she got through it. I also had her read about the history of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving."
"Today we worked with the concept of proportions which is related to ratios. We reviewed is multiplication facts and identified that the student needs to practice and learn some of his 6's, 7's, 8s 9's and 12's. I gave him a few strategies to help with the nines and twelves, which were helpful. He did well today!"
"Today, the student and I continued reviewing for his upcoming final exam. We worked extensively on logarithms today. We practiced evaluating logarithms using the definition, writing exponential equations in logarithmic form, and using properties of logarithms (sum/product rule, difference/quotient rule, and constant/exponent rule). We also did several examples of solving equations involving logarithms and exponents. The student had mentioned yesterday that he could use more practice with logarithms, and so I think today's session was really helpful in that regard. He definitely seemed to feel more comfortable with the examples that we worked through today, and I think his understanding of logarithms has improved quite a bit. We will meet one more time tomorrow for one last review session before his exam on Thursday."
"The student and I covered descriptive statistics, probability, expected values, and statistical inference for one mean and one proportion."
"During today's session, the student and I discussed plans for 8th grade math. We attempted to figure out what he will be learning and how to design our sessions around those objectives. We did go over the Pythagorean theorem. Once he understood the formula, he was able to complete more of the problems on his own. For the next session, I will have a plan for summer learning for him."
"We worked through some problems to prepare for the student's test tomorrow. I think she will do fine on the test."
