Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a geometry test on Monday, so we reviewed for the whole chapter. We did most of a review at the end of the chapter in the book. I helped him see the proportions of similar triangles in a parallel fashion rather than as matched pairs."
"The student has a test on Tuesday so we covered the material that would be on the test which included similar triangles and ratios and proportion. It was a good session overall and any progress will be monitored next week after the test."
"The student has a big geometry test (midterm) tomorrow, and so wanted help studying for that. We used the workbook and went over the various questions her teacher gave them to help study for the test. I have reminded her to check carefully and take her time. Also gave her some strategies to help confirm right answers and alert her to possible problems (such as a number that is too big given the other numbers in the problem, or that on both sides of a probability, the larger number should be in the same place)."
"Covered Section 7.2: Similar Right Triangles, Converse of the Pythagorean Theorem; Section 7.3: Geometric Mean; Section 7.4: Special Right Triangles 30-60-90 degrees, Special Right Triangles 45-45-90 degrees; Section 7.5: Applying the Tangent Ratio; Algebra Review: Simplifying Radicals."
"The majority of the subject was reviewing his exam for section 7.1-7.4. Similar and special right triangles. The goal of the session was to prepare the student for his upcoming test over all of Ch. 7. Kareem has a solid knowledge of the material."
"The student and I completed a worksheet from her teacher that included problems which challenged her class as a whole. She successfully completed each problem. She also completed an assignment on a graphical approach to quadratic equations. She has a clear process for everything that she is currently learning in geometry. We completed the session by answering questions from her chemistry lab assignment."
"We spent time working through 2 column proofs. We went through 4 example proofs where we worked one together and then he worked 3 on his own with some guidance when needed. He was starting to work the proofs better towards the end of the session and doing a better job making the connection to the reasoning. He has a test this upcoming Friday, so I asked him to let me know what he is struggling with before Wednesday so I can pull some additional resources to focus on his weak points."
"We focused on understanding the properties she has learned for use in geometric proofs. I gave her strategies for remembering what each of the seven properties she has been introduced to at this point means and how they can be used. At the end of the tutorial, we began a sample problem I presented to her and will complete it during the next make-up hour on Sunday."
"We covered parallel and perpendicular lines. I have not seen any grades yet. The student showed improvement with writing the proofs for finding vertical and anterior angles. I provided her with written proofs to study and look over for her quiz. The session went well."
"We worked on a practice test for the math test the student will take tomorrow. The student was having issues with setting up word problems. We worked on several word problems to practice breaking down the information and how to set up the equations."
"In this session, we primarily covered fundamental symbolic logic and the construction of geometric proofs. The student was a good sport and maintained active engagement throughout our session. He had no problem whatsoever with logic, while he could probably use some extra practice on constructing proofs, particularly from scratch. He had an assignment to finish that contained proofs. I extended the offer for him to e-mail me with his completed work so that I could give him feedback on it."
"We specifically covered collinear angles, points, and planes to begin with. The student had some problems with this on the first test and I gave her some pointers on how to review old tests to correct errors. I told her to go see her teacher and have him review the test with her as well. We had gone over homework in the session and worked through about half of it. I left her with the other half to do on her own so that we could review it at the beginning of next week. Extra practice was given to be completed at students request. No concerns for this session."
