The goal for the next few weeks is to get the student up to speed with whatever material is being taught in class and to review the sample problems the professor posts online. First, we went through one of the homework problems that the student had questions about. It involved determining the percentage of a population that was below a certain value on a random variable, based on knowledge of mean and standard deviation. He did an excellent job on the homework. We then went through a conceptual overview of sampling distributions. This included parameters, sample statistics, standard error of the mean, the relationship between sample size and normal distributions, and the Central Limit Theorem. We also looked at how standard deviations and accuracy changed with size of sample distributions. The student was concentrated and did a great job understanding these concepts. He was assigned homework on them, which we'll go over at our next lesson.
