This was my final session with the student before his pre-comp exam on Tuesday. We went through two practice tests and did all the questions, and he seems to have learned a lot of new concepts in the time we have been working together, so I hope he does well on his exam tomorrow. I quizzed him a lot both on paper and verbally, and he seemed confident and was quick with the answers. I am very proud of him!

We covered irregular and regular verb conjugation and present, past, and past participle verb tenses. The student struggles the most with recognizing verbs, but conversing in English helps her practice and expand her vocabulary. The student has a very positive attitude and is eager to learn. I left her with some verb conjugation charts so she can review on her own time, as well as two worksheets to complete for our next meeting. I was pleased to learn she got an A on her vocabulary test last week. I can tell she is making progress because she is conjugating verbs with more ease. For next session, I plan to review past tense verbs and begin a review on future tense.

The student and I initially worked on researching political cartoons for his history group project on the Industrial Revolution regarding air pollution. We decided on a visual display that he will illustrate to capture the devastating effect of air pollution in London during the time. Afterwards, he and I worked on an English project. I found an Edgar Allan Poe for him to interpret and analyze/ paraphrase. Then we started a PowerPoint presentation. I helped him design the format for the presentation and we wrote out all the content. He needs to finish it at home by copying the written context and typing it into the presentation.

The student and I tackled root words 21 and 22 after mind builders warm ups, and she definitely has the hang of it. I can tell she is benefitting from learning new words every session we have, and she even remembered the meaning of new words from our last root words session! Homework is on the post-it on her Reading Detective.

The student did well in this session as she mainly worked on two assignments. On one she needed to select a quote from the book Frankenstein which gave her a lot to talk about. On two she had to write 3 paragraphs about the main goal of technology. She had lots of questions which I was able to answer.
