Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on reviewing the PowerPoint for his chapter of The Scarlet Letter. He was able to complete his PowerPoint and I felt he was ready to give his presentation on Tuesday."
"Today, we continued reading through Of Mice and Men. The student read the chapter out loud, then we started discussing the plot and chapter questions."
"We focused on the past progressive verb tense. We did exercises 15-27 (a total of 4 worksheets), which examined different scenarios in past progressive, particularly looking at ones where you double a letter or drop a silent "e" and add "-ing." The final exercise was a combined review of past progressive and simple past, and we were required to determine which tense was most appropriate to which blank. We also discussed hyphenated adverbs and "did (not) walk" vs. "walked". I plan to bring some additional practice for this to our next session. We also went over two paragraph-editing worksheets. We then reviewed a paragraph that the student was working on for an application, describing his role at work. The student edited it for general grammar (i.e. adding an "s" to make a word plural), as well as clarity (which mostly involved re-organizing sentences). At our next session, we will do past perfect and past perfect progressive, as well as possibly a cumulative past tense review. We will do more paragraph editing, and talk about where adverbs can be placed in a sentence."
