How can a tutor help you with summer tutoring?

The summertime is known for family trips, summer camps, softball leagues, and more. One thing that summer is less popular for is summer learning loss. Every summer, students who don't revisit material they learned during the school year at least once a week lose approximately two months of information. With a summer tutor, your student can explore alternative ways to learn material of different subjects. Varsity Tutors can help match your child with a tutor that can help them avoid summer learning loss. Summer tutors in Los Angeles, California, can help your child retain the information they learned in school.

Math is the most common subject to forget during the summer. Often, six weeks of fall semesters are spent revisiting material from the previous year. If your student struggled with remembering how to work with fractions, decimals, order of operations, or other math topics, they can also go over these topics in engaging ways. A game of hopscotch out on the sidewalk is a great way to review multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. Learning in the summer doesn't have to be a drag when Los Angeles summer tutors can make learning fun and engaging.

Session Summaries by Summer Tutors

Los Angeles, CA Summer tutoring
The student and I continued reviewing the math section of her practice ACT exam. We covered topics including ratios/percentages, graphing, logic reasoning (in regards to some of the questions), exponents, and a lot of trigonometry. Overall, she did well. I wish her the best of luck on her exam this weekend. It looks like she just needed review on some of the concepts. She did admit that this was her least favorite section, but if she keeps practicing and applies what we have reviewed, she can do well.

The student and I reviewed the plot thus far in his summer reading book. He did well at remembering the recent details, especially given his two week hiatus from reading and tutoring. We read chapter 8, identifying figurative language and difficult vocabulary.

The student had her exam over the digestive system today so we did not have too much biology to go over. She was just assigned an English argumentative research paper so we spent today going over topics and formulating a thesis statement for each topic and organizing supporting evidence for each topic.

The student and I had a good session today. We began with some mixed word problems (addition/subtraction/multiplication/division). We then did a reading comprehension exercise. We read a few passages and she had to respond to multiple choice as well as free response questions. She did very well. She and I then worked on writing a letter. She chose to write it to her mom.

In this session we started looking at double flats and double sharps in the piano. The student understood how to find them very well. We practiced reading a new rhythm and clapping it. We are still working on eight notes and it is getting better. In the other part of our lesson we started working on the new video project. The student decided what video he wanted to use and we talked about ideas to use with the video such as effects and how to cut and paste scenes. He will be working on it and next class we will continue.
