"We'd thought the student was completely prepared for his social studies exam, but there was additional material covered that wasn't in his notes. I've encouraged him to pay attention when his teacher mentions that something they're covering might be on the exam, as he needs to learn to take notes on material that's important. I also encouraged him to organize his backpack -- he said the assignment he turned in late was one he couldn't find. I suggested he have a folder just for current homework assignments, and keep a binder of all his old assignments so things don't get lost in there. We worked through the rest of his 7th grade diagnostic exam, and he flew through it. He has a strong sense of when and how he can predict an answer, which is very promising. The challenge will be making sure he is confident with everything he learned this year."
"Today the student was assigned a 14 question test over chapter 1 in which she only missed 2. We then covered the first half of chapter 2, covering linear equations, slope, and point-slope form. She was assigned homework."
"Created syllabus using student feedback, used brief exercise to gauge student's strengths and weaknesses in writing and reading comprehension, and gave lesson in recognizing and choosing tone, purpose, and audience."
"Today the student and I went over her two tests in Geometry and Chemistry. She did quite well. I was impressed with her efforts, based on the concepts. We worked on some Geometry homework, and she did well. I look forward to our next meeting."
"We worked on math and English. The student is performing very, very well in both subjects, and he his keeping up with his homework. His dad and I decided to move the sessions. We only have two more before his exam."
"We spent the first several minutes celebrating the student's acceptance to a performing arts school in the jazz vocalist category. I am really thrilled for her and see this as an amazing opportunity to foster her remarkable artistic talent and challenge and mature her in many ways. Then we reviewed the map of Russia and the United Kingdom for her Geography test tomorrow. Next, I guided her as she completed her Spanish homework on "ser" and "estar". I also helped her review the conjugations of each verb for her Spanish quiz tomorrow. We finished with defining some goals for the week. She seems quite motivated to keep improving her grades since the performing arts school promotes strong academic performance as a condition for remaining a student there. "
"The student had his final in Integrated Math III on Thursday, the 24th. We went over a study packet his teacher gave him and we worked through as many problems as we could, focusing on the ones he struggled with most, which were the problems that dealt with trig identities."
"We went over the material for her last stat exam. She is doing a lot better than when we started and she's a lot more confident in how she addresses problems."
"Today we covered amines including trends in basicity and preparation of amines. There was definite progression towards better understanding of basicity which was great since basicity can be a strange concept. We also worked through a couple syntheses, preparing various amines using ethanol as a source of carbons."
"In this session I went over a completed assignment with him to check his work. After that we worked on buffer and titration problems. We went over how to do buffer problems involving strong acid and bases as well as week acid and bases. We went over how to use the Henderson-Hasselbach equation to solve these problems."
"We continued to develop and outline the student's synthesis essay for his English class's dystopia unit. We picked quotes to include and discussed writing strategies. We also started the first body paragraph. I was very impressed with his performance. Not only does he have a good grasp on the material, but his writing style is turning out to be beautiful. I believe that he is a talented writer, and that he has the potential to excel in writing."
"In this session, the student and I went over a math test that he didn't do so well on. We went over how to add and subtract positive and negative integers. We also went over how to find the absolute value of a number. We worked on various problems. He seemed to be very challenged in the beginning; however, after a lot of practice he understood the concepts. I feel that he has done a lot of improvement."
