Session Summaries by Languages Tutors

Long Beach, CA Languages tutoring
The student and I met to review for her Spanish exam. This session covered a wide variety of material including conjugations in the present, preterite, imperfect, and present progressive tenses. It also covered differences between 'ser' vs. 'estar' and preterite vs. imperfect. We covered counting to 1000, using expressions with 'tener', time expressions with 'hacer', etc. I encouraged her to conjugate all of these verbs before the exam in the various tenses. I also asked her to make flashcards to help her review vocabulary. We did practice and examples for as much of the other material as possible.

Today, we reviewed the conjugation of verbs into the future tense with both regular and irregular verbs. The student completed some activities to practice this conjugation by completing sentences with the verb conjugated into the future. Next, we continued to practice reading comprehension. I reviewed with the student the different strategies of this skill. We did something a little different this time. Rather than reading the passages together and him translating with me, I had the student read it on his own and answer the questions about the passages. He did very well on his own. He seems to be feeling more confident in the use of the language as well as with reading comprehension.

The student completed his French homework. He indicated that his teacher will be absent and I made sure to review the material more thoroughly with him for the work that the substitute will assign. We completed several activities to help him associate the tense with vocabulary and lexicon that he already knows. The student is able to conjugate with ease. I asked him several questions with the past tense and I will incorporate a reading comprehension activity next time.
