Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met for the first time and began reviewing for her midterm the next day. We went over probability density functions, determining if a sequence or a series converged/diverged, and practiced finding the sums of series. We went through practice problems on old exams. She seems to generally understand the topics she just needs to slow down while she works and make sure she doesn't make mistakes."
"The student and I studied double integration in polar coordinates today. He had no trouble with the actual integration."
"We reviewed for the student's exam tomorrow. We went over many problems that involved differentiating and integrating trig functions, exponential functions, and natural logs. We also solved a couple of questions about slope fields, and briefly went over separable differential equations. He had a solid understanding of these topics at the end of the session."
"Today the student and I met to work on Algebra 2. We completed part of an assignment covering application of decay and exponential growth functions. She could do the problems."
"We finished going through her review packet, focusing on rational expressions and complex fractions. I gave her a few additional practice problems on complex fractions."
"The student and I completed a review. The only issue she had while completing the review was with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing functions. She was confused with the notation. The problem was easy to work through. She seems very ready for her test."
"We started logarithms this session. First we went over the definition of a logarithm, and how to convert between logarithms and exponentials. Then we went over different logarithm identities, and ways to simplify logarithms to solve problems. We did problems separating logs and then putting them back together. Then we did some equations with logs. After some practice he was getting the hang of solving the logs, so we went onto natural logs and solving decay problems with logs."
"We reviewed in preparation for the student's final exam in 2 days. Today we went over Ch. 1 material, which covered limits."
"The student and I first finished up the assignment from our last meeting. We spent the rest of the morning talking about the important families of functions (recognizing, manipulating, etc.). I briefly introduced logarithms but will spend more time on this subject in the future. The student will spend the time before our next session catching up on some of his reading."
"We went over derivatives and limits. He was then assigned practice problems to review from his book."
"Today we worked on infinite limits and their properties. The student is doing well to retain knowledge of limits. I was glad to hear that limits were more easy for her than they were in the past. We also worked on homework together. It was a good session."
"The student and I covered derivatives today. We practiced some exercises involving different theorems of differentiation such as the quotient rule, power rule, and product rule. In order to gauge progress throughout our tutoring sessions, the student was given different exercises to solve so that I could see if he was struggling or needed help with something. He, however, did not struggle with any of the information we covered today. I did leave him with some homework for next time so that he not only practices the concepts covered but masters them."
