Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered trigonometric identities and areas of triangles. We had the opportunity to use trigonometric ratios to find the high when a right triangle is involved. She continues to be motivated through her attention to the learning and her bright ideas. She did well at her last test on trigonometric functions. The session went great and we planned to meet Wednesday."
"The first student and I went through her worksheets on vectors. All the things she's learned recently are starting to pile on top of each other, so the earlier lessons are coming back to confuse her. We talked about not overcomplicating the problems.
The second student and I went through her review sheet for the Pythagorean Theorem. She needs to memorize her Pythagorean triplets, but we made a review sheet for her, and towards the end of our session she was already remembering them. We also talked about trusting herself on proofs, and starting small."

"Today, the student and I worked on solving systems of equations with matrices, utilizing GaussJordan elimination, the inversematrix method, and Kramer's Rule. He had a good grasp of all three methods, but he needs to take a little more time with his work to avoid making arithmetic mistakes."
"The student had some homework problems that she couldn't figure out, so we worked on those. It seems like she actually has a good intuition for it, but gets stuck sometimes when having to combine methods of solving or having to solve a different way than she's used to. We talked about how to know which steps to take for each problem, which seemed to help her quite a bit."
"We covered how to graph inverse trig functions and how to solve algebraic problems using inverse trig functions. We also did a general review about graphing all trig functions and their respective bounds on an xy graph."
"We reviewed for the student's upcoming quiz the following day over zeros, synthetic division, and the various theorems used to solve for them in large polynomial equations. We went over how to do it both on paper and on the calculator, as she will be allowed to use her calculator on the quiz."
"Since the student had a test coming up, we focused on reviewing the chapter covering logarithms. This included solving both logarithmic and exponential equations, as well as talking about the graphs of logarithmic functions."
"The student and I looked over the rest of her previous assignment, and went over some concepts that she didn't understand and may have gotten wrong on the test. Some of this section is extremely time consuming so it's understandable that it may take a while to be familiar with it. We also looked briefly at 2.5, which is over asymptotes and limits of graphs, which she finds easier. I tried to drill in concepts about complex numbers and zeros tonight, since they are harder."
"We did a review of all the topics in the 2nd semester of precalc. We talked about rational functions, polar coordinates, the unit circle, using substitutions to solve equations, and some vector arithmetic."
"Today, the student and I worked on a few dozen pages of math problems for her math final. We covered such topics as natural logs, logs, identities of triangles (i.e. sine, cosine, tangent, etc.), as well as the identities of different trigonometric functions. She was able to finish all of the problems."
"We finished up our review for the student's final prep. Today, I had him draw out a unit circle and label all of the parts, including the angle in both degrees and radians and had him label the cos and sin values as a coordinate pair. I also had him make a chart of the tangent values for all of the angles included in the unit circle. This was a good exercise to review trig identities as well as calculating sin, cos, and tangent values (which can also be used for csc, sec, and cot) with the 2 most common right triangles. We also did review of solving trig problems (e.g. cos x = 1/2). Student seems well prepared for his final tomorrow."
"We worked through a test the student had gotten back. We also discussed study strategies for the next test."
