Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student reviewed for his geometry test. We went over questions he got wrong on a previous test and he knew right away what he had done wrong. When I quizzed him on vocabulary words, the student knew them all without hesitation. He has definitely improved on his understanding of key geometry terms and how to use them in two column proofs. "
"The student and I went through practice tests, looking at all the questions he answered incorrectly, reviewed the topics covered in previous sessions. Problems (such as some Pythagorean theorem and 'sum of consecutive odd number' questions) that he had said he would "never get" were smooth sailing by the end of the session!"
"Topics covered include an overview of all of the material covered in the course, which are kinematics, Newton's Laws, momentum, energy, rotation, and simple harmonic motion. These were applied as a review for a final exam the following week."
"We worked on writing mostly. The student's test scores show that he is "basic" in writing, so we worked on his punctuation, capitalization, and writing more neatly. We did a frog theme this time as well. We read a book and wrote sentences after reading it. His comprehension is phenomenal, it's just getting the mechanics mastered. "
"The student and I worked further on imaginary numbers and their application in quadratic equations. We practiced simplifying radicals in preparation for his exam on Wednesday. We also practiced sketching curves given a vertex and solutions to the curve. I gave him a number of practice problems to work through on his own this evening as well."
"This was my first session with the student. I helped him prepare for his math final. We looked through previous tests of his and worked through some problems. He did a really good job. We will continue with review tomorrow"
"We had a really great session. We went through ACT reading. The student does well and we saw improvement from the first to fourth passage."
"She is taking the MCAT in November and would like to score at least a 35/36. She recently took AAMC 3, on which she scored a 29 (11/9/9). We went over the harder questions and passages on the exam, in addition to going over general time management and test-taking strategies for each of the sections. We also went over some conceptual questions from workbooks, with topics such as energy and waveforms being covered. She will take AAMC 4 next Thursday and in the meantime she will finish doing content review for biology."
"The student and I met for one hour just to get a feel for how she would like to study, areas she needs to focus on, and how we are planning to spend our sessions. We decided to start out with me preparing lesson plans in the areas of physics and chemistry. As the student continues with her individual studying, we will add some review of her practice tests and specific areas in which she would like more assistance. Over the weekend she is going to take a full length practice test to help give us a both a better feel for the subjects she needs to review the most. I have no concerns and think we will work well together."
"The student and I spent most of this session going over some of her organic chemistry homework and reviewing orbital hybridization, molecular geometry, electronic geometry, and bond angles. This was a good comprehensive review and she did a great job of working through this material and drawing connections between seemingly disparate concepts. We concluded the session by doing a few practice organic chemistry passages, as a preview for what will be coming up in her organic chemistry class. Next session, we will be making a schedule for her exam studies."
"We went over the student's most recent pretest. We worked on slope, quadratic formula and factoring. He got a 100% on his most recent Biology quiz. He has homework to do, which he will go over with me next time."
"During this session, the student and I reviewed many thermodynamics questions. We used her prep book to work through the problem set, and reviewed concepts she felt she needed to cover further. She has improved immensely in this area, and I saw improvement even today in being able assign correct positive and negative labels to her work and energy answers."
