Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent the first 45 minutes working on problems from class that the teacher indicated would be on the student's quiz tomorrow. We were working on basic proofs involving line segments and angles. We discussed the steps necessary for a proof and practiced matching statements and reasons to make up the steps of a proof. We spent the rest of the time working on similar problems from her homework packet. These were more complicated proofs but drew for the most part on the same skills and thinking processes."
"For this session we covered mainly assessment test prep, covering the practice material in the student's textbook as well as a take home packet. He understood most of the material very well, spare the content his class hasn't yet covered. We mainly reviewed test taking and problem solving methods."
"We covered several end of Chapter 3 problems to go over as a preparation for the student's upcoming test on Friday. We also reviewed concepts from chapter 3, and skimmed through the chapter review section."
"We reviewed the theorems regarding parallel lines and transversals and I helped her study for a quiz over the material that she has tomorrow. We then started talking about slope and finding slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines."
"For this lesson, the students and I worked on their linear graphs/graphing homework from their textbook. This session went fairly smoothly as the concept was a continuation of the previous week's. We covered the equation for the calculation of the slope of a linear graph, along with their two forms of equations: the point-slope formula and slope-intercept formula. Both were used within the homework so familiarization with both was required."
"Finished the student's geometry homework on using the triangle angle sum theorem. The student understood the concept well, but he needed help to implement the concepts of previous sections with this new concept. He worked hard and we finished the homework."
"Today was a breakout session for the student. We studied for his geometry test the next day and this was the first session I really saw engagement in what we were doing and him trying to learn the concepts and asking questions. He is smart and just needs little tricks to help him remember the concepts in Geometry."
"We spent the first 30-40 minutes going over the new sections that were covered in his course. He is beginning proofs of triangle congruence and was introduced to SSS, SAS and ASA. He had a test last week and said that it went well. For the remainder of the session, we reviewed for his PSAT coming up in a few days."
"-The student and I discussed his lessons from the week, and his previous exam (72). Specifically, congruent triangles. The test was about lines/points/planes, and other entry-level geometry material. -72 on his last exam, and he thinks there's going to b"
"The first session with the student was spent reviewing the recent sections of content covered in class. We reviewed proving triangle congruence using various postulates and corrected a graphical error in his notes. We began devising a plan to keep his grade up for the new grading period."
"The student has a quiz on Friday over special segments in triangles such as medians, angle bisectors, perpendicular bisectors, etc. She worked through her whole study guide pretty well. She knew her relationships and how to set up an equation to solve."
"Today we went over a worksheet that the teacher assigned for review. He did well. He showed me what he doing in Chemistry and he is excited about and understands it (ideal gas law and Boyle's law)."
