Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed material from a quiz over graphing quadratic equations this session. Then we quickly went over equations of circles and practiced problems involving writing equations and graphing circles. The student has an excellent understanding of circles."
"Today we covered multiplication and division. The student was able solve a long division problem without writing down the steps. He also checked the problem using the strategies I taught him. He mentioned his math grade increasing from a C to a B. He has become very good at multiplying and dividing using multiple strategies. At the end of our session, we made multiplication fortune tellers that he can use to practice his 6,7,and 8 multiplication facts."
"The student is starting to move to a new topic, which mostly involves building on old material. For this session, she and I worked on graphing quadratics when the equation is given in binomial form. She does very well with these topics. She has become quite proficient at converting between equations tables and graphs. She still needs to memorize her equations for the vertex, but otherwise does not seem to have any problems with this topic. We also discussed what happens when y is equal to numbers other than zero. She actually solved these types of problems without very much aid."
"We went more in depth on logarithms. The student reviewed the fundamentals of solving Algebraic equations with this new concept of logs and exponents. We will wore on making sure he knows the process to remove a log with a certain base, or vice-versa in removing an exponential with a certain base. We will work on more examples until he understands the process better."
"The student and I did a practice set covering graphs of line functions, finding of cross points for solutions of lines, algebra factoring and application for two parameter solutions, etc."
"The student was very excited to tell me that she earned 100% on her Chapter 7.1-7.3 quiz! We then reviewed for her Chapter 7 test, Sections 7.1-7.3, 7.5. The topics that were covered included sequences and series, arithmetic and geometric sequences and series, recursive sequences and application problems involving these concepts. She reviewed for the text by completing problems using the extra practice section of her textbook. She did a great job remembering the rules and worked independently on the assigned problems. I also wrote out two application problems for her to practice. Upon completion, we reviewed her work together. Though she did make minor errors, I did remind her to always check her work for any calculation errors and ensure that the solutions make sense. Overall, she feels pretty confident and knows she will do well on the test."
