Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered potential topics for the student's next essay, which is due in a couple of weeks. The essay must cover a form of communication one would expect to write in everyday communication, i.e. a letter to a parent or a college application essay. We explored a list of his hobbies and interests so we can ensure he composes a paper on a topic that keeps his writing passionate and fresh. After selecting a topic, we started to create an outline for his essay. He was very receptive to suggestions and will continue to work on his essay for us to review in our next session."
"Today we completed a US Government homework assignment in the student's textbook. We also read the introduction and first chapter of Jaws, which the student will be reading in class with his peers and teacher. I did not see any grades and I did not leave additional practice."
"This session allowed the student to develop her skills in the area of simple subject understanding. She worked on completing and reviewing her homework assignments. I reviewed three pages of homework and made suggestions for improvement. She also developed her book on the class book. The student presented questions and then I clarified expectations for the assignment. The second student I worked with had an opportunity to continue developing his understanding and knowledge of present, and past participle tenses of verbs. The student presented questions and I offered corrections and suggestions. I then reviewed one section of homework over the course of the session."
"The student read 5 books today, two level C books and three level D books. She is still at a C/D level. She also practiced her sight words and digraphs. Next week we will play some interactive reading games to boost her motivation."
"The student read a book called Go Dog Go to me, and then we read another picture book together and played a reading board game. It was great that she was able to read all of Go Dog Go by herself! I am seeing progress in her ability to concentrate on reading and increased self confidence."
"The student read a chapter book with me at this session and she did a good job with her reading fluency. At the start of the session she was a little slower at reading than at the end of our session. I brought up her change to her mother and we both felt it could be from the change in time for our summer sessions (we moved from afternoon after school to 11am). We will keep monitoring her progress and change the time as needed as we are both flexible in our meeting time. She did a great job on her comprehension and I see no issues with her comprehending the new chapter books."
