Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the laws of logarithms and practiced as many problems as possible in the time allowed. I strongly suggested more practice, now that she has the information she needs."
"The student has a test coming up in her prealgebra class and her teacher provided each of the students with an exam review packet. As such, during our session, we went over as much of the material as possible, ensuring that we covered those items that she had questions on. She and I discussed several math concepts and worked several problems as examples and reinforcement of the material. A few of the items that we covered are as follows: solving polynomials into their simplest form, solving for direct and inverse proportions, word problems, simplifying variables with exponents, etc. She did very well during our session."
"We reviewed some problems she needed help with from an old test and from her book. They involved finding expression for series and calculating series from formulas of common series, some derivative problems, and another simple problem finding rate that a shadow grows."
"We worked on the student's written response problems. They're similar to word problems. These asked her to do multiple steps of things like multiplying and adding fractions. She talked her way through them and was eventually able to figure them out. We then did some work on multiplying and dividing exponents. She seemed very comfortable with those. Finally, we worked on multiplying and dividing fractions. She is continuing to grow in this area, and she will do well on them when it comes up in class. I think one more session focusing on these will help her as she moves forward."
"Today we went over chemistry homework with significant math components. We solved problems with exponential notation, conversions between micro, nano, and milliunits, and atomic weight isotope ratios."
"We went over proofs of triangle congruencies. We went over a worksheet from class where we practiced arriving at proofs of triangle congruencies by applying the sideangleside/ angleangleside/anglesideangle theorems, addition postulates and subtraction postulates, perpendicularity rules, angle equivalency rules, and line segment addition and subtraction.
She did well with grasping the concept of how to creatively arrive at proofs once we reviewed the basics. I also ensured she had a thorough understanding of the theorems, which she satisfactorily demonstrated.
I recommended to her that she practice math daily for at least 45mins.
She has a test on Friday. We arranged our next meeting to be the day prior to her test."

"She had a test she took last week that we went over. Most of it was working with rational expressions with variables. We have our next appointment scheduled for 1/17 at 10am."
"We went over finding equations of lines and planes in 3 space. We also went over partial derivatives, Lagrange multipliers, and optimization problems for functions of several variables. We also touched on integration over squares and iterated integration. I will be assigning him some extra practice which we will go over tomorrow to see if he has any outstanding concerns or problem types that we need to focus on. I have been seeing remarkable progress in understanding."
"We went over some trigonometric equations and how to solve them using the unit circle. It really helped her to go through several example problems. We covered quadratic equations and how to graph them in the different forms. She also seemed to improve after going through several example problems"
"In this session, we reviewed an array of topics: using rates of change, derivatives, integration, and other types of summations. We first went through a couple multistep free response questions from old AP tests. The majority of this was straightforward, but there were a couple parts that were challenging. She momentarily struggled on a problem involving trapezoidal rule summation, but we clarified the issue. After going through the free response questions, we continued on a review sheet that she had started in class, which gave almost no problems whatsoever. We have another session on Wednesday, and I have no doubt that after these sessions she will have done quite well on her exam."
"We covered fractions within fractions, more algebraic PEMDAS manipulation, more absolute value, and basic percentages. He seems to have internalized last weeks lesson fairly well. I left him with 3 problems to do over break."
"Tonight, the student and I reviewed for his upcoming placement exam. We used a few of the practice exams during our session. There is some content on the exam that he has not yet covered in his classes, but he is good at making educated guesses given a challenging problem. We will continue to work on the more challenging topics on this exam."
