"The student and I reviewed an essay from a practice SAT, and began looking at John Keat's "Ode on a Grecian Urn" which will be the topic for her next big essay. We will be examining the meaning of the last two lines in particular."
"The student and I started this tutoring session with a review of parts of speech: noun, adjective, verb, pronoun, proper noun, possessive noun, tense (past, present, and future), conjunction, colon, semicolon, and commas. She is nearing mastery level in this material (parts of speech). We then moved on to vocabulary development. We reviewed the ten new vocabulary words and their definitions. I gave her a quiz, and she correctly answered all twenty questions. We finished today's lesson with a poetry lesson. Specifically, we studied alliteration and onomatopoeia. She is a very bright student who is always eager to learn."
"The student and I continued to work on conversational English along with talking about what we did during the week and weekend. Next, we discussed a TV show and the social situations in it. We talked about slang terms used in the show and aspects of American culture that she had questions about."
"The student practiced journal writing. She was left with words and journal entry to practice tracing and re-reading her journal entry. She practiced echoing Fry words via two videos. She completed pages 24-25 in her work book with a focus on identifying objects, colors by reading and coloring. She was left with pages 26-27 for enrichment practice. I read aloud the book "Tim" as she echo read the book with me. She read the book up to page 8 independently. She practiced her segmenting skills."
"The student practiced making sense of an unknown word by using picture clues to understand the meaning. We reviewed previous sight words and I introduced new ones. He practiced identifying sight words with long vowels using an educational website. He was able to verbalize strategies that he should use when reading. He improved on self correcting when words do not sound right."
"The student practiced reading fluency and comprehension skills by reading passages and answering questions about it. The skill we worked on was main idea. He was required to find details in the passage to support his main idea. He also worked on writing a 5 paragraph essay."
