Lisle, IL SSAT tutoring
He got his results from the test on the 13th and I went over this with him and his dad. He scored in the high 80th-mid 90th percentile for his age, which is pretty good. We will keep working to try to improve this score for his February test. Then we reviewed some of the areas including reading comprehension (main idea) and analogies. Additionally, he did a few practice math questions using geometry and algebra concepts.

Lisle, IL SSAT tutoring
The student and I continued going over math concepts today. I'd given him reading comp passages for homework and he did wonderfully on them. I'll have him keep doing those himself as he seems to have gotten the gist. Today we worked on fractions and decimals, specifically, dividing with decimals and converting fractions to decimals and vice versa. We also covered percentage near the end of the session. He was able to grasp the concepts, but he does need more practice on conversions, specifically, going from fractions to percents and vice versa. I gave him worksheets covering the concepts for homework, and the extra practice should help him organize the steps in his head so that it becomes automatic and not something he has to think about. I noticed that when he grasps a concept, he gets excited and tends to want to rush through subsequent problems with that concept which opens his work up to errors. With the newer concepts that aren't yet cemented, I'm trying to get him to do all of the steps of the work even if he knows the answer because there were a couple instances where simple calculations were wrong because of rushing through it. Still, he's a wonderful student and as long as he practices and does his homework, his skills will improve tremendously.
