Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked through the student's latest problem sheet. Some of the problems were a little different so on several, I worked the first problem and then he completed the next which was similar. This seemed to work well as we chose problems that he would have been challenged with to get started."
"We covered division and multiplication of 2 and 3 digit numbers, order of operations, and fractions. The student did very well. We will continue to work on his accuracy vs. speed."
"The student and I worked on her math homework from the past week. A few of the concepts seemed foreign to her when we started, but she was able to complete all of the problems successfully by the time we finished."
"I oversaw the student's work on his worksheet 5, which I made sure he completed. After this we reviewed counting by 4's. We then moved on to counting by 6's. We also worked on his addition flashcards. He showed vast signs of improvement in the area of his ability to add numbers more quickly and accurately. Toward the end of the session we started playing a fractions game."
"The student had easy math homework. She had a worksheet with angles on it. She had to look at the angle and choose from a list of 4 numbers to decide which number was probably the measure of the angle. She did pretty well with this. She had multiplication problems on the back. After that, we worked on mixed skills. She compared and added fractions with unlike denominators, she simplified fractions, rounded numbers, and wrote fractions as decimals."
"The student is working on anti-differentiation and u-substitution. She has a very strong grasp of the material. This is the first I have met with her in 3 weeks. Today we did as many practice problems as we could to make sure she is completely confident with this new material. For u-substitution, I am emphasizing that she follow a problem-solving strategy for each problem she encounters that will help keep straight which steps she needs to take to get to the solution."
"Homework on equivalent fractions and decimals. The student had to write the numbers as hundredths and tenths in fraction form and decimal form. We reviewed and made corrections together. I gave him a practice sheet on fractions and decimals. He responded quickly and completed the worksheet."
"Currently shaping up the student's math skills. Lengthy exposure to the materials will help him feel comfortable with it."
"Today we continued practicing logarithms, with emphasis on using laws to expand or simplify expressions. We also looked at waves and their properties, including period, frequency, amplitude, and shift."
"The student and I reviewed for her test tomorrow. We went through a plethora of sin/cos/tan problems in which we had to graph functions, or derive functions from graphs. We also did some rotational problems, which were rather difficult but it seemed like she was getting the hang of it by the end."
"I helped the student review for a chapter 7 test. We began by going over sections 6 and 7 covering solving and plotting exponential and logarithmic functions and expressions. The student is definitely making a lot more progress this semester and staying ahead."
"Today the student's homework was on adding and subtracting polynomials. The student usually struggles with adding and subtracting negative numbers, so this was good practice. By the end, we was getting through the problems quickly!"
