Lindenhurst, IL Writing tutoring
Today we finished reviewing and revising the student's essay that he started in our last session. I read the corrections that he made and gave him some constructive feedback. I told him I definitely saw improvements in this draft. There was more unity and he added transitions to make the essay flow. I advised him to compare and contrast his first and second paragraphs and make necessary corrections to the first paragraph. After reading both paragraphs, he noticed he did not use proper punctuation such as commas in the first paragraph. He made the proper revisions which eliminated several run-on sentences. Afterwards, I encouraged him to expand his thoughts in the last paragraph. I gave him examples and suggested he be more expressive in his writing versus precise and straightforward. He made a step in the right direction. I told him to save his essay and we would revisit it at a later date. Lastly we reviewed pronouns and how they are tested on the PSAT. He also did a few practice problems that required him to identify sentence errors regarding parallelism.
