Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on fractions and decimals, and went over the problems in the quantitative reasoning section of the practice test that dealt with fractions in any way. The student was focusing very well. At first she sometimes made the mistake of writing 23/1000 as .0023, etc. but once I explained it she understood and corrected all the mistakes. She did well with the word problems as well. There was only one problem that gave her a little trouble, dealing with estimating which fraction was the biggest. She still has trouble converting fractions and equations to different forms, i.e., multiplying the top and bottom by the same thing. She had only a vague idea of what mean/average is and how to find it. I explained it briefly and we will continue discussing the topic next session."
"This was my first session working with the student, so I began by getting a sense of the level he is at. We started with math, and focused on fractions: adding, subtracting, dividing, etc. I will review this with him next time. We also talked about strategies for reading comprehension and read through a passage. We talked briefly about the vocab section, which I will go into more detail next time."
"Today the student and I reviewed strategies for approaching each section of the placement exam, verbal reasoning review/ practice questions, geometry review/ practice questions, simplifying expressions, solving equations for variables and computations involving fractions. I'm confident that he will do well when he takes the exam on."
