Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We did another few x^3 polynomial factorizations. Also looked at 1/x + 1/x^2 type equations. He is going to practice these for two weeks."
"Today we finished Chapter 1 and started working on Chapter 2. The student is very smart, and we need to work at applying his skills to various problem types and using multiple concepts to solve a problem."
"Review of topics previously covered. Went over distribution and factoring of monomials and binomials."
"We spent the session reviewing. We spent the first part of the session solving equations that involve adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing fractions since that was something the student was uncomfortable with. We also practiced word problems and inequalities (including compound inequalities and ones with fractions)."
"This was the first session and I worked with both students, separately. Student A worked on Newton's laws for his upcoming physics exam. He seems to understand the concepts, but there were some grey areas such as summing up forces and substitution of variables into equations. Student B worked on the quadratic formula and completing the square. She seemed to struggle with a few steps in completing the square. After clarifying that, I also showed her how to use the quadratic formula and what it signifies in a quadratic equation."
"The student's Semester 1 Final is Tuesday. He has the ability to do well, but needs to remember to consistently apply Order of Operations and properly work with negatives. He knows all the concepts - it's just these couple little processes that are frustrating him. He needs to stay focused and think about the process before doing it, and remember to use his calculator."
