"The student and I went over an essay from his English textbook, about the practice of "hooking up" between college students, and prepared his essay in response to this piece. We later conferred/went over his draft of his essay by email."
"The student and I went over her previous Organic Chemistry test so that we could see what type of mistakes she made and how to correct those mistakes. We also went over that day's notes that she had written in class and discussed the topics presented. We made a plan as to how we were going to break up our meeting time in order to best cover all of the subjects on the next exam."
"We spent a little more time on parameterizing surfaces and surface integrals. He had trouble at first but we worked through about 10 problems together and he's developing strategies. This isn't a section that has formulas or equations to solve so it is a matter of practicing over memorizing."
"Both students did Spanish - Student 1 read over a page of excerpts and articles about the Panama Canal and the coffee trade routes, then answered questions about them. Student 2 learned Chapter 6 vocabulary for the first time (clothing and shopping vocab)."
"We first went over strategies to help with the essay writing portion of the ACT. Then, we went over the practice exam he took since our last meeting and I helped him with questions he was struggling with. His biggest concern is the time restraint and pacing himself so I gave him tips to become a faster test-taker."
"We went over a writing section and a verbal section in practice test 1. I briefly went over common writing errors that are tested on the SAT. I found that she has to practice her vocabulary. Her reading comprehension skills so far are impressive."
"The student and I started off with the essay that she had done for homework. We did an outline and revised the direction of the body paragraphs so that she came down more solidly on one side of the argument. Then, since she had had difficulties with rules of exponents at our last meeting, we did a review and drilling of rules of exponents that also included a lot of order of operations review. She really picked up the problems and I could see her visibly improve even within the short span of the lesson. Finally, we did some assessment style problems, which we will continue on Thursday."
"During this session I helped the student go over material that was going to be on upcoming tests and quizzes. I helped clarify anything that she was not 100% about. We then practiced an Algebra 2 worksheet that was known to be on the test. Once completing that worksheet she was fairly confident for her upcoming test and quiz."
"The student was back from Spring Break and did not yet have more homework to work on, so we began organizing his notes for an extra credit paper on the similarities and differences between the play and film versions of 12 Angry Men."
"Today the student and I continued our preparation for tomorrow's cumulative 4th six weeks exam. She had worked on the problems I had assigned to her at the end of the last session, and we very quickly went through those problems with which she had issues. We then worked through the chapter 8 quizzes and test. She had a much easier time working through these problems (chapters 7 and 8) now than before."
"We covered the writing section of the SAT, specifically best techniques and practice problems for improving sentences, identifying sentence errors, and improving paragraphs. We went through the critical reading questions he got wrong on his practice SAT. His vocabulary seemed to improve. I assigned the writing and critical reading sections for the second practice SAT in the Official Guide. I have no concerns from this session."
"The student and I got a head start on her Africa unit today. I taught her how to best digest information in a text book chapter (starting with maps). We talked about how to anticipate what was going to be on the test, and discussed the importance of creating timelines."
