Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"When reviewing the student's extra practice at the beginning of this session, I noticed her work was completed a lot more neatly and spelling was a bit more accurate. After reviewing her spelling work, I administered a practice spelling quiz. After the spelling, we worked on a vocabulary exercise in which the student learned how to apply multiple strategies in order to find word meanings in a reading passage. This not only helped with her reading, which she personally feels is something she needs practice with, but it also helped build her vocabulary for her writing. After this exercise, we began planning for a writing assignment: "my biggest goal" in which she planned on being a famous scientist. She was asked to complete a rough paragraph using her planning as extra practice, in addition to writing sentences for her spelling words."
"Today I read the student's essay that he wrote for homework. After reading over it I read some of the sentences aloud to him. I asked him to add to his outline and re-write the essay. I allotted him some time to write and proofread the essay. Afterwards I read over his essay and noticed it was a lot better than the last essay. I provided him with material to read that outlined the writing process in great detail. After he finished reading, I asked him to explain the key points that stood out to him. He was able to point out the key components in the paper that we discussed in our sessions."
"This was our last session for the semester. We had to spend a considerable amount of time creating a suitable schedule for him to get assignments turned in. I think he is set up for success!"
