Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on her new section which involved simplifying expressions. There were a few that were tough, but overall she did great! We moved ahead and prepared for her upcoming section on long division of expressions. She did great on this!"
"Reviewed weather systems, including the different aspects of weather which may affect the patterns seen on radar. Discussed the effect of temperature on the density of water vapor in the atmosphere and its direct correlation to the precipitation that may be produced."
"We spent an hour covering the student's writing assignment due next week, where she has to write a book report in the form of a letter. She had started writing a little, but I helped her with an organizational outline and filling out the first paragraph about the plot of her book. She can use the outline to help organize the rest of the letter. After that, I checked her pre-algebra homework, which was all correct. She indicated that she had struggled and had gotten a lot of in-class help, so I watched her re-work a couple of problems so I could see her thought process, and she was very focused and showed all her work."
"The student and I went over some of her practice problems for the inference on proportions (e.g., confidence intervals, one- and two-proportion z-tests, etc.) We discussed how to interpret the language of some of these problems as well as strategies for taking tests in statistics. We will meet again on Wednesday. She had a positive attitude towards the material ."
"We worked on preparation for the student's test on convergence/divergence of series and sequences. He gets the concepts as we discuss them but needs to work on recognizing the right convergence test to be used for each kind of series. He has some problem with a couple of the practice test questions on errors. I will send him some notes about them today."
"We spent the majority of the session previewing the student's math subjects for the next week. We went over different kinds of triangles such as equilateral and isosceles. We also spent time going over the difference between complementary and supplementary angles and went over practice problems in the book."
