Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"After briefly going over the student's Chemistry homework, we reviewed her SAT test taking strategies for this Saturday. She then asked me to review the Finding Sentence Errors portion of the SAT Writing section."
"We worked on all sections, concentrating on math. We did a review of algebra with an eye towards solving equations (i.e. how exponents work with distribution, etc.). We were able to review writing and reading as well, on which the student is quite strong."
"We started by reviewing the ten minute writing section she had done and then progressed to do a full writing section together. After that, we did a full math section together. We spent the last few minutes reviewing the general things to remember for when she takes the SAT on Saturday."
"The student and I covered the second half of test 4 this session. We focused mostly on the reading comprehension and writing sections, focusing particularly on common grammatical errors and red flags in the sentence correction sections. I encouraged her to pay very close attention to the subject-verb-object structure of sentences, to remove all of the fluff around the basic sentence structure that is meant to distract you from identifying the error. We focused on pronoun-noun agreement, use of correct idioms, and even adjective-adverb confusion. We concluded with a short math section, focusing on exponent rules."
"This was our last session before her test in 2 days. We reviewed missed questions on two completed math sections and a few vocab sections. We also talked about the day of the test. She agreed to complete a full practice test in one sitting tomorrow, to prep for the full exam."
"The student and I had our final session. We did a little bit of everything. She did very well in an essay-outlining exercise. We also discussed test-taking strategy. I am confident that if she stays relaxed and sticks to her game-plan on test day, she will receive a good score."
"I had the student complete a practice test prior to this session. Her math abilities are so advanced that she should receive an 800 in this section. She received a 780 in the SAT subject tests. Considering that she finishes every section early, I have counseled her to slow down and make sure to check her answers. I have assigned her homework assignments consisting almost entirely of reading comp."
"Today we focused on substitution in algebraic system of equations, sequences/series, and spatial geometry. We also reviewed for her upcoming math test in school, which covered inverse and joint variation as well as polynomial calculations. I wrote three basic guidelines for how to approach addition problems, multiplication problems, and complex fraction problems."
"This was our final session before the test on Saturday. We spent it refreshing the student's understanding of strategies for critical reading passages, math, and the essay. I advised him to review his math notes and do at least the pre writing for one more essay prompt before the test."
"The student and I finished studying for the SAT today. We focused mainly on math, but we also discussed some concepts for the reading comprehension, writing and essay portions. He has come a long way and worked very hard! Good job!!"
"This was our first session in a while. Given that, she has an SAT this weekend and ACT next weekend, so we reviewed major strategies and tricks for each test. She is really smart, and knows the right answers when she takes just the briefest of moments to think about them. She needs to remember to do that when she's taking the test. I'm sure she'll do fine these next two weeks!"
"We started again today by reviewing math work that the student had done the previous day. He had gotten several high difficulty level questions correct, and had struggled with only a few. We went over how to approach some of the more difficult questions, including a challenging function question. Then, we returned to Writing questions. We reviewed commonly misused words and improper grammar. Then, we examined tactics for tackling writing multiple choice questions. We ended the day by doing part of a practice section for Writing multiple choice. He plans to do more work in math tonight."
