Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent the entire session reviewing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions and mixed numbers. The student is scheduled to have a algorithm test on these concepts. After review she was able to solve problems successfully."
"Today, we were able to complete 11 out of the student's 14 homework problems on t-test statistics. We identified the null and alternative hypothesis from word problems and determined if there was sufficient evidence to reject or support the claim using statistics. The student did very well!"
"This session went well. It was the first of our sessions preparing for his final exam in math and for some of his subject tests for Chemistry. He has some big tests coming up next week, so this week will be about going over review worksheets for his math final and chemistry tests to insure that he is ready next week."
"During today's session, the student and I began with our daily discussion for "The Outsiders." We read approximately 4 pages of chapter 3 of The Outsiders. While reading the chapter, we went over some comprehension questions. After reading, we went over some of the words that he did not know the meaning of. Most of the words are words which we do not use in everyday language. He does understand how to find context clues within a reading selection. He also completed a writing assignment for me. He described to me the relationship between two characters and how it affects the story. For math, we worked on word problems for pre-algebra. After working on these, I began to talk about Heron's formula for scalene triangles. For the next session, we will continue our discussion for "The Outsiders" and Heron's formula."
"For the most recent tutoring session we continued with the theme of graph/function-related topics by introducing how to determine whether a function is even or odd, as well as how to graph a piecewise function. The latter will need to be revisited next session because they require graphing multiple functions, as well as a thorough understanding of domain and range. I will periodically send practice problems to the student throughout the week as well as advise her to use the online practice problems."
"The student and I are working together to make the transition from elementary to middle school. Her mom has a lot of areas of concern, and her biggest academic concern is going to be 6th grade math. We are primarily keeping him focused on the areas where he has struggled the most with. We spent much of this session assessing more areas of concern."
