Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The past three tutoring session we have been reviewing for his final exam this Wednesday. This tutoring session we focused on chapter two, which dealt with inequalities. When it comes for solving for x, the student has improved tremendously so he is able to solve this new chapter of inequalities without any help. He is able to add and subtract negative numbers more easily. The student seems a lot more comfortable overall with any equation. We prepared a cheat sheet that his teacher allowed and within this cheat sheet he has all the different formulas and simple reminders on how to solve different equations. We finished the end of the session practicing the elimination method and subtraction method."
"Today we worked on a review packet that the student received from school. She had very few issues throughout the course of the session. We spent some time at the end going over SOHCAHTOA and sin/cos/tan for various angles. She is very well prepared for her math final and should perform well!"
"We worked through a review packet given to the student by her teacher. The cumulative review gave us an opportunity to review what equations and sections she should focus on for her upcoming final. She felt her biggest area of need was series and conic sections. In writing equations for geometric and arithmetic series, she showed quite an improvement and seems comfortable with them. Her biggest issue was memorizing the equations for finding the sum of n terms, finding the nth term etc. Once those equations are memorized she will be fine. We decided to focus our next section on series and conic sections."
"Today was the last session for the student before her final tomorrow. We continued to review the topics for her final, including unit circles, SOH CAH TOA, radians, degrees, reference angles. We also reviewed equations of trig functions, amplitude, period and phase shift, and probability with the normal curve. She did very well with these topics and she should do great on her final! It has been a pleasure working with her this year."
"During this session we covered power series representations of functions, derivatives and integrals of power series, and the radii and intervals of convergence. We worked through many examples as this is difficult material. We also discussed when and how to modify the indices of a summation, as well as how to combine summations. The student said that he felt much more comfortable with the material by the end of the session and said that he wants to meet several more times before his upcoming exam."
"The student and I went over the first half of his review for the final. For today, we dealt with solving linear equations with one or more steps using addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division. With fractional coefficients of x, I reminded him to multiply by the reciprocal on both sides. Sometimes he had to apply the distributive property to remove the parentheses. We also worked on problems with writing linear equations in slope-intercept form. He did well for the most part."
